What is Whitefield?

A couple of years ago we were approached by someone about “a quantity of old BMX parts” he had. After our excitment subsided when we found out it wasn’t a lock-up full of VDC Changas, we went to take a look at what he had. The start of the accompanying video shows the moment when we first saw the scale of what we had here.

Basically this chap had bought this old stock, along with some regular bikes a much of years ago from a bike shop it Bury. Now it looks like they imported these at the time in compotent form as the the duty was lower than complete bikes. There was pretty much everything to make these into complete bikes with two different frames. These would have probably been comparable to a Moto One or something back in the day.

Anyway we took a gamble, hired a van and hauled everything back to Wigan, counted everything up and waited for a time when we could decide what to do with it all. After making some initial plans and making couple of sample bikes which we displayed at the We Were Rad event at Southsea in April 2023, Alan got seriously ill right after and the project got put on hold.

The frames we unstickered, so we had to come up with a name for them, because were got them from Whitefield (near Bury) we went with that, designed some stickers and away we went.

The Survivor
Fast forward to today and everything is good now on all fronts so we got down to making a plan. All in all there were about 75 frames, forks and bars. The chrome frames were pretty rusty as were the wheels for them, so just for fun we built one up as it was “rat look” style and everyone that saw it, loved it! We thought it could be a cool budget project for those who want a genuine 1980’s BMX bike without sending thousands. This bike became what we’re calling the “Survivor” model and it is available in component form with everything to build it into a complete bike that you can keep as is or restore, repaint etc or as a complete bike assembled by us.

The Expert
Next up with had these blue framesets which were is pretty good condition but did have some rust in places from 40 years storage. We build one of these up as well, but used new wheels, tyres, chain, freewheel etc so it would ride OK and this bike became the “Expert”. All are blue but in amongst them was one red frame/fork/bars - we’ll come back to that in a minute.

The Pro Tuff
Last up we have these Aero style frames without head tube gusset, we had the frame, fork and bars powdercoated white and we fitted them with all new parts with skyway wheels, Dia-Compe brakes, Panaracer HP406 tyres, etc, etc. These are available with a red or blue parts package.
Limited quantity x Blue

Limited quantity x Red

Every frame, across the 3 models is numbered out of 75.

We have priced these competitively and we think this a pretty cool project, we’re glad we save them from landfill and now you can own a missing piece of BMX history. Going forward we are looking at continuing with the brand with some new products, so keep your eyes peeled for announcements.

Oh, remember the red Expert frame we mentioned? This one-off will be given away in a competition in conjunction with our friends at We Were Rad, so look out for that.
